I am really into thrillers and horror films, so when i saw the preview for obsessed, I was really excited. A couple of weeks ago i saw the movie obsessed starring Beyonce Knowles and Ali Larter, and i was so impressed with the movie. Here is the summary from the internet movie database:

Derek Charles is a hard working man, employed as a asset manager in a private company. He is very happy with his beautiful wife, Sharon, and only son, and because of his hard work he just got a huge promotion. But suddenly he gets a temporary worker who is both attractive and smart, and Derek is understandably impressed with her and also finds himself physically drawn to her. However, this new girl is desperate to get close to him – at any cost.

Both Beyonce and Ali played their rolls really well. Ali played the temorary worker and did an excellent job at being obsessed with Derek Charles. She was so believable it was actually kind of scary. It made you believe that she is actually like that in real life. It was so intense to watch her believe that she had some sort of relationship with Derek Charles and then watch her not understand why he didnt like her back. You sit in the theatre watching all this going on, and you just want to yell at her and go “Get over it he doesnt like you…MOVE ON!!”

Beyonce did a phenominal job as the wife. I never knew how good of an actress she is. She definitely knows how to get the right emotions across. And when the temp worker shows up at Sharons (Beyonce) house, a fight goes on between them. I had never pictured Beyonce being so tough. It was such an intense scene. Watching them fight it out til the end. I couldnt believe it. Based on the movie, I definitely would not want to get in a fight with either Ali or Beyonce. The fight was the most intense scene of the entire movie. It was so good!!

I really recommend that everyone go see this movie. It is so good and so intense. I was definitly impressed with the movie and would go see it again. If you have seen the movie, let me know what you think of it!

The Canadian Press

A Winnipeg man has won a victory against Air Canada for all travellers who’ve felt shortchanged when the airline either lost or damaged their luggage.

Gabor Lukacs, an assistant professor of mathematics at the University of Manitoba, won a ruling from the Canadian Transport Agency earlier this week.

The CTA found Air Canada’s policy that it’s not responsible for delayed or damaged baggage violates both international conventions and Canadian law, and must be changed within 90 days.

Lukacs, 26, said he does a lot of travelling, both abroad and within Canada, and said he found Air Canada’s policy irresponsible.

“It just bothered me,” he said.

“I was returning from a flight last fall and I saw that sign again and I thought, ‘I have to do something about it.’”

Once the new ruling is implemented, Air Canada passengers will be able to demand compensation for damaged luggage or for luggage that didn’t arrive when they did.

“I see this as the greatest achievement,” Lukacs said of the changes Air Canada must make.

“I am very glad that I was able to do something that makes a difference for all Canadians.”

The sign that bothered Lukacs states: “The following damage is considered to be normal wear and [Air Canada] will not accept a claim for: scratches, nicks, missing straps, zipper damage, scuffs, dents, soiling, damage resulting from overpacking, damage to wheels, feet, extending handles.”

In a ruling issued May 13, the CTA agreed with Lukacs and gave Air Canada 90 days to remove or change the signs.

The airline also has 45 days from the ruling to argue why it should not be required to alter its own policies on the issues.

Air Canada spokeswoman Isabelle Arthur declined comment, saying the airline is still reviewing the ruling.

I personally think that it is fair that if they loose your luggage, then you should be compencated, but i do not think that the airline should be responsible if luggage is damaged on the plane. Thats the risk you take when you fly. What do you think of this policy?

I am in Alberta hiking with my family, but this isn’t an ordinary hiking trip, this is a climb up a mountain. More specifically we are hiking up Opal Hills in Jasper. I can not refer to it as a hill though. Standing by the entrance looking at what I am about to climb, it definitely looks more like a mountain to me. So that is what I plan on referring to it as.

The only hiking I have ever done before this has been through small little trails that don’t take much effort to go through; but I quickly can see that this hiking trip is going to be much tougher. I am excited though to embrace on this journey, and to push myself possibly harder than I have ever pushed myself before. We start heading up as a group which consists of my mom, my brother, my Opa, my uncle Bill, Oksanna, Oksanna’s mom, and my cousins Carley and Robin. This is my first time climbing Opal Hills but every cousin of mine that has ever come to Alberta for a visit has climbed this mountain. I decide I have to keep up with the tradition, but I quickly learn why I don’t do this thing very often, I am out of shape!

As we are heading up the mountain I am watching all the scenery around me. Although it is mostly trees, it still amazes me the beauty that they have. Perhaps it is being in a place that I have never been in before, but everything just seems that much more real here. I am amazed and really enjoying it.

We quickly loose track of my Opa and my brother Kyle as they are in shape and have continued so far ahead that no one else can see them. I am near the end of the group with Carley and we are taking breaks and eating gorp, also known as trail mix. It is delicious and while it hits the spot, it also gives me more energy to keep moving on. It seems weird to me how you can be walking through a forest and then come across a meadow out of nowhere. This meadow consists of mostly flowers and weeds and it comes up to my waist. I feel a little nervous walking through this meadow. Since meadows are a favourite spot of bears, I can just imagine one lying down right near where we are walking and attacking us. I can see that my mom is worried. My Opa and brother came through here on their own. At least with us we are in a group and could hopefully scare off any bear, but it is just the two of them, and that is frightening. We hurry through the meadow, and lucky for us, no bears in sight. We continue on through the forest with our hike.

After walking some more we decide that it is time for a water break and a photo opportunity. We are all feeling a little silly and decide to pose in funny ways. The first picture we take is of us all trying to look really strong. The second photo is another group shot, but this time we are acting like we just came in contact with a bear. Seemed like the perfect photo since we passed the meadow. There is a lot of giggling going on, and we are all really just enjoying this experience as a family.

We walk some more, and at this point I am getting worn out from all the walking and can not wait until we reach the top and can relax for a bit. The sun is shining through the clouds more now, and I know that we are getting close. The anticipation is building and I can not wait to see what is at the top. We come across some bear droppings that my cousins tell us is still warm. I am not too afraid at first, until my cousins start telling us what to do in case of a bear attack. They tell us how to use the bear spray, which is pretty much like pepper spray, incase one of them couldn’t use it. Then they tell us how to protect ourselves and get rid of it if it is a grizzly bear or a black bear. We continue walking hoping that once again, we don’t come in contact with any bears. It is quite a frightening situation always having to be on the lookout for any potential predators while still trying to walk without tripping over any branches.

Finally we approach the clearing, and I see the most spectacular thing. Up near the top of this mountain is a huge valley. After seeing dirt and trees for the last couple of hours and worrying about coming in contact with a bear, it is nice to see some grass, water, and flowers. Off to one side you can see mountain tops that seem so close, but are really far away. We meet up with my Opa and brother and they tell us that they have been waiting for us for about thirty minutes. I personally think that they missed thirty minutes of wonderful experiences with their family.

We all take a seat on the ground and have some lunch and just enjoy the view. My cousins are talking about going sledding on some of the snow strips that are near the valley and telling us how much fun it is. I am wondering what they planning to use as sleds, but I see them pulling out rain jackets and put the pieces together. I can not wait to try out this new experience. This entire experience with my family is the best reward I could ever ask for for climbing Opal Hills, and I would not exchange this reward for anything in the world.

So the end of the year is approaching quite fast, and i am very excited! I do not feel strssed at all about upcoming exams and summatives. I feel very much on top of things and i cant wait for the year to be over! High school seemed to fly by, but i am kind of glad it did. I have been dreaming about the time that i would be leaving for university since i was a little kid. And although i am going 5 hours away, to North Bay, it still excites me! am also excited for the end of the year activities the school is having because it is going to be a nice way to end the year and enjoy some time with my friends! I just thought that i would wish everyone good luck on their exams and summatives, and for the people who are going to be attending university and college…pick a place that you will enjoy and can see yourself in for the duration of your program!

A “sentencing error” at the Dartmouth jail meant an inmate spent an extra two months behind bars, a Justice Department spokeswoman says.

Sherri Aikenhead said the man was released April 20 after staff at the Central Nova Scotia Correctional Facility noticed the mistake.

‘Should this gentleman come into our custody again, then we would ask the courts to take into consideration that he had served extra time.’— Sherri Aikenhead, Justice Department

“They immediately apologized to the gentleman and he was released that day,” Aikenhead told CBC News on Wednesday.

The inmate, who has not been identified, was sentenced in December to 60 days in jail. Aikenhead didn’t identify his crime, but said he was sentenced on eight charges.

The man was supposed to be released on Feb. 20, but he didn’t get out until two months later.

Aikenhead said corrections staff checked the paperwork on April 20 as they were preparing the inmate for release. It was then they realized the man was supposed to serve his eight charges all at once, not consecutively.

Aikenhead calls it a “sentencing error.”

She said no compensation has been offered to the man, nor has he asked for anything.

“Certainly, should this gentleman come into our custody again, then we would ask the courts to take into consideration that he had served extra time,” she said.

A senior staffer carried out a review “as a precaution,” and all inmates are where they should be, Aikenhead said. “So far, there have been no other miscalculations.”

Mental illness

Joan Jessome, president of the Nova Scotia Government and General Employees Union, which represents guards at the jail, said she was told by staff that the inmate suffers from a mental illness, which she would not disclose.

She said when she first heard what happened, she immediately thought this was another disadvantage for people with mental illnesses.

“Is this where they belong? If it had been someone else, they would not have been there two months too long,” Jessome said.

How people with mental illnesses are dealt with by Nova Scotia’s justice system is expected to be one of the focal points of an upcoming inquiry into the death of Howard Hyde.

Hyde, who suffered from schizophrenia, died at the Dartmouth jail in November 2007, about 30 hours after police subdued him with a Taser.

There are 367 inmates at the Central Nova Scotia Correctional Facility.

So my question to everyone is do you think that this inmate was treated fairly? Should he recieve some sort of compensation for serving two extra months?

So a couple posts ago i said i was going to do a review on Adventureland, so here it is! First i will post a plot summary so you all have an idea about what goes on in the movie. Then i will post my review of it, and then i have a question for you at the end! Enjoy

Summary from Fandango:

Inspired by writer/director Greg Mottola‘s own true-life job-from-hell experience, Adventureland stars The Education of Charlie Banks‘ Jesse Eisenberg as an uptight recent college graduate who discovers that he’ll have to get a degrading minimum-wage job at a local amusement park instead of spending his summer drinking German beer, visiting world-class museums, and flirting with cute French girls. It’s the summer of 1987, and James Brennan (Eisenberg) has just graduated college. James is all set to embark on his dream tour of Europe when his parents (Wendie Malick and Jack Gilpin) suddenly announce that they won’t be able to subsidize the trip. Now the only things James has to look forward to this summer are sugar-fueled children, belligerent dads, and an endless parade of giant stuffed animals. When James strikes up a relationship with captivating co-worker Em (Kristen Stewart), however, he finally starts to loosen up. Suddenly, the worst summer ever doesn’t seem quite so bad.

~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

My Review:

I had high expectations that this movie was going to be funny. Maybe it was for the fact that it was from the directors of Superbad. But i was disappointed with the movie. Now dont get me wrong, there was comedy in it, but just not as much comedy that i had expected. The cast played there roles really well, although i think there are other actors out there that could have brought the story more to life. I also found that the story line was kind of dry. I remember sitting in the theatre wondering when the movie was going to be over. It felt really long because i just wasnt interested. Perhaps that is because the characters were playing a lazy, laid back role. Whatever the reason, i really wasnt a fan of the movie.

My Question to all of you:

Now i am not sure if any of you have seen it but i was wondering, if you did watch it, what did you think??? Was it actually a good movie and perhaps i was too tired and didnt have the attention span to watch it???

So awhile ago i posted my short story, and lately i have been editing it because i want to submit it for my best piece. This is one of the parts that i added into my short story to make the character more real and more in depth.

I continue searching through boxes for my clothes when I come across a picture of my dad and me. It was taken on my sixteenth birthday. My dad had just surprised me with my very own car that afternoon. He was supposed to take me for a driving lesson later that night, but on his way to fill up the gas tank, a drunk driver ran a stop light and hit him. He died instantly. I was at home watching TV when we got the phone call from the police. I could tell by my mothers face that something was wrong. When she finally got off the phone and told me of the accident, I rushed out the door and ran three blocks to where it had happened. All I had wanted at the time was to feel close to him again. So I sat underneath a oak tree, near the intersection, with my arms wrapped around my legs watching them clean up the mess. My mom found me a little bit later. She sat down beside me, not saying a word, and wrapped her arms around me like she was trying to protect me from the pain. We sat underneath that oak tree crying for hours, maybe minutes, time seemed to stand still as the sun set, leaving us both heartbroken. The weeks after his death were the hardest. Everything seemed to remind us of him. When I returned to school two weeks after the crash, nobody looked at me the same way anymore. I was no longer the quiet student in the back of the class, but rather the girl whose dad died. When I walked the halls everyone would stare and point at me and then whisper to their friends. They never thought that I could hear them, but I knew what they were talking about; it was what everyone in town was talking about. We were never able get away from it. That’s when my mom put the house up for sale.

So everyone seems to know about the little girl from woodstock who has been missing for about two weeks now. While i was on the internet searching for a news article to post, i came across this one. It appears that they now have a sketch of the possible abductor, so i decided that i would post this article on here. Hopefully she is found soon, safe and alive.

The woman in this composite sketch is a suspect in the abduction of Tori Stafford, OPP said Tuesday. (Ontario Provincial Police)

Police are appealing to members of an Ontario community to come forward if they recognize the composite image of a woman considered a suspect in the abduction of Tori Stafford.

The eight-year-old disappeared two weeks ago in Woodstock, Ont. The last known sighting of Tori is on a surveillance video, walking near her school with the unidentified woman depicted in the sketch released late Tuesday.

Police said the woman in the composite is 19 to 25 years old, five feet one inch tall and about 125 pounds, with long black hair worn in a ponytail.

Ontario Provincial Police Det. William Renton, who took over the lead role in the case last week, said police believe there are people in the Woodstock area who have knowledge of the abduction.

Speaking at a Wednesday morning news conference in Woodstock, he said police are “very hopeful that somebody may recognize the composite and give us a call.”

“At the end of the day, we’re just trying to find any information that will bring Victoria home,” he said.

A witness helped police create the sketch, said Renton, but he would not disclose further details. He also refused to comment when asked if any family members were considered suspects.

Tori’s mother said earlier Tuesday she hopes that the “guilt just eats” at those responsible for her daughter’s abduction.

“I don’t know why you’ve done this to my family,” Tara McDonald said outside her home.

“I don’t understand, but just let her go. She doesn’t deserve this. We don’t deserve this.”

So tomorrow is the start of the four day easter weekend, and i thought that i would take the time to wish everyone a great holiday!

Today was the Easter Grad Breakfast, and although their was not a huge turnout, it was still a great way to kick start the day before the holiday. There were lots of friendly competitons between the tables and the food, especially the fruit, was tasty. Tonight i will be celebrating the beginning of the holiday by seeing Adventureland with some friends, and i will post what i think about it sometime next week.

Tomorrow i will be going to my aunts place for a special dinner. We get together for most of the holidays and it is a pretty nice way to spend the holiday. On Easter we always have ham and potatoes with lots of other good stuff too! It is always interesting going to their place because the conversations can turn from normal to weird within a second!
Officials expanded the list of communities north of Winnipeg that have declared a state of emergency late Wednesday after an ice jam on the Red River caused flash flooding in the region. The flooding has forced at least 30 families to flee their homes in St. Andrews. The rural municipalities of East St. Paul, West St. Paul, Blanchard, St. Laurent, Franklin and St. Clements are also under a state of emergency. The province has deployed a second sandbag machine, 100,000 additional sandbags and almost three kilometres of tube diking to the area. Some residents are still scrambling to fill sandbags and safeguard their properties while others are leaving the area in boats. Hundreds of homes are expected to be affected by the rising waters, officials said. Residents are preparing for the possibility they may have to evacuate the area on Thursday. Communities in the area are usually protected by a floodway but the ice jam has caused the water to flood the banks in several areas. “We were prepared as much as we could be but we just didn’t have any idea it was actually going to come over the banks,” said Gail Masson, who left her home Wednesday. “We just weren’t prepared for that.” An ice breaker works to ease the flow of water on the Red River on Monday. (CBC)Work crews laboured throughout the night to chop the corners off the massive ice jam in the hopes of moving it down the river. The backup of water is likely going to cause more ice jams downstream and lead to more flooding, said Paul Guyader, emergency co-ordinator for the area. “This is going to be a recurring problem for a number of days,” Guyader said. Forecasters have been expecting the annual flooding in the Red River basin to be particularly bad this year because of heavy rainfall, but ice jams have added to the problem as far down as North Dakota.

This article kind of reminded me of New Hamburg a couple of weeks ago. It shows how much the melting and rain has affected all parts of Canada. So my question to everyone is what do you think of all this flooding?
